The Sochi Declaration
On June 3 of 2016, a round table entitled “Cities as Stations of the Future Eurasian High-Speed Metro” was held within the framework of the 9th International Rail Business Forum “1520 Strategic Partnership” organized under the auspices of the Railway Silk Road Cities Forum. The round table resulted in the adoption of the Sochi Declaration.
The Sochi Declaration emphasizes the importance of development of a new system of transport mobility in Eurasia. The basis for the mobility is the project of the Eurasian High-Speed Metro for passengers and cargoes. This project has an ambitious goal of connecting Eurasian city stations in a metro-like manner through a network of express and high-speed railways.
The Sochi Declaration determined the following objectives:
- it is necessary to coordinate all important HSR initiatives undertaken by Eurasian countries for the purpose of achieving optimum results, including in terms of interoperability and integration;
- cities aspiring to become part of this large “metropolitan railway” must create necessary economic and infrastructural conditions, including construction of transient underground stations that will not affect their image and allow significant reduction of stop duration for high-speed trains.
